Safe WASH is a prerequisite to good health, sustainable livelihoods, quality education, and a healthy environment. Our program strategies articulate how Water For People India will support governments and other partners to achieve universal and sustainable WASH, with a focus on reducing inequalities. Throughout the course of an intervention/project, our strategies align with the overall vision, mission, and objectives of the initiative – implement high-quality WASH programs that improve health and overall well-being of everyone.

We employ a straightforward approach of assessing the existing barriers and assembling the resources needed to overcome them. Our efforts are guided by the first two SDG 6 targets:

Our strategies provide guidance on what types of interventions should be applied in different contexts and are underpinned by the following principles:

  • Give overall direction
  • Fit resources and opportunities
  • Minimize resistance and barriers
  • Reach those affected
  • Advance the mission
  • By 2030, achieve universal and equitable access to safe and affordable drinking water for all.
  • By 2030, achieve access to adequate and equitable sanitation and hygiene for all and end open defecation, paying special attention to the needs of women and girls and those in vulnerable situations.

In the pursuit of the above goals, we have defined our program strategies to mobilize resources, build on synergies between the SDGs and WASH and reinforce our influence within WASH partnerships.
