Youth Shaping the Future of WASH and #PeriodCare
Background
Water For People India is implementing Yuva Ki Lehar – Phase II (2026), a national youth engagement campaign focused on Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) and its linkages with Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH). The campaign aims to mobilize young people, especially college and university students, to break stigma around menstruation, promote scientific understanding, and advocate for safe and dignified menstrual practices.
As part of the campaign, Yuva Ki Lehar Fellowship 2026 will engage selected youth leaders from colleges and universities to undertake research, storytelling, and awareness activities related to WASH, while expanding the campaign across educational institutions.
Purpose of the Fellowship
The fellowship aims to nurture a cohort of youth ambassadors and changemakers who can contribute to knowledge generation, digital storytelling, and youth-led campaigns on WASH issues.
Fellowship Duration
6 Months
Fellowship Objectives
The fellowship will aim to:
- Promote youth engagement in WASH issues and MHM through Yuva Ki Lehar Campaign.
- Generate youth-led digital content such as videos, stories, and field narratives.
- Strengthen youth leadership in advocating for safe, inclusive, and stigma-free menstrual practices.
- Expand the Yuva Ki Lehar campaign across colleges and universities.
Key Responsibilities of Fellows
Selected fellows will:
- Conduct field-based or desk research on WASH and menstrual hygiene themes.
- Document case studies, field stories, and best practices from communities and institutions.
- Produce thematic videos, digital stories, blogs, or social media content related to the campaign.
- Support awareness activities and youth engagement events in colleges or communities.
- Mobilize students and coordinate Yuva Ki Lehar campaign activities on campus.
- Submit periodic updates, documentation, and final outputs as required.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants should:
- Recent pass out graduate, postgraduate or research scholar from a recognized college/university.
- Preferred academic background may include Mass Communication, Development studies, social work and relevant fields.
- Have good communication, research, or storytelling skills.
Support Provided to Fellows
Selected fellows will receive:
- Mentorship and guidance from Water For People India experts.
- Opportunities to engage in WASH program initiatives.
- Exposure to youth-led campaigns and digital visibility platforms.
- Certificate of Fellowship upon successful completion.
- A monthly stipend of Rs. 10,000/- or more based experience for fellowship persiod.
Expected Outputs
By the end of the fellowship, fellows are expected to contribute:
- Research notes or thematic study outputs
- Digital stories or short documentary videos
- Case studies or field narratives
- Youth engagement or awareness activities in educational institutions
- Campaign content for digital platforms
Reporting and Coordination
Fellows will work under the guidance of Water For People India’s Yuva Ki Lehar campaign team and will be required to submit periodic updates and outputs during the fellowship period.
